Annual leave entitlement for workers is based on a statutory minimum of 5.6 weeks per year (equivalent to 28 days for a full-time worker). In many cases holiday entitlement will be enhanced by the contract of employment or under a collective agreement but the statutory entitlement will underlie any such enhancement.
This topic area covers the statutory annual leave entitlement as well as common enhancements that apply in education under the Burgundy Book and Green Book. Education establishments where other collective agreements apply should refer to these documents for references to holiday pay entitlement, calculation and rules.
In our guidance and information section you will find information on statutory and enhanced leave entitlements as well as guidance on the interaction between working time and annual leave (such as the calculation of holiday pay and what happens when periods of sickness or family-related leave intervene).
Templates and tools contains a calculator to work out the leave entitlement for a worker employed on a full-year (i.e. not term time only) basis, including pro-rata entitlements for part-time staff or where someone is joining or leaving part-way through the leave year.
